well its back on the drawing board. I had the blazer for sale on craigslist in hopes of long arming the xj, but no hits so I decided to keep it. Sunday I am picking up a 72 c10 longbed cap/clip/bed and the plan is to do the cab swap, dovetail the clip to headlight width past the frame and shorten the bed to match the frame as well as dovetail it to the same width as the front and make new bumpers

got the 72 c10 cab/clip/bed yesterday. started pulling body mounts on the blazer saturday. there was quite a chunk of rust and frame rot at the far rear left frame horn i will have to cut out so 14" will be cut out of the rear of the k5 frame at the rear to about 3" from the rear shackle hanger. will have to remove the factory fuel tank in the process and I'll run the factory '72 tank and use an inline electric pump and a regulator. should make for a sweet ground clearance advantage and departure angle will be better. now for a clocking ring for the np208...

Thinking about starting working on this thing in the evenings. I want to get the tank dropped and cut the rear frame off

sundays daylight savings so i probably will start to do that this next week. if all else fails we can always cut a hole in the bed and mount it towards the front or something, but I think we may be able to use the factory 72's tank and put the electric pump in the 72 sending unit

so on to making a new part of the build thread. off came the old cab/clip and on goes this fanuegeled the stock 72 behind the seat tank to house the tbi pump and used the factory fuel lines that droop under the cab to run over to the stock tbi lines in the frame started running wires and mounted the ecu behind the glove compartment. the harness is going to be bare bones from the blazer and just running the essentials. the rest of the lights/etc will be run from the 72's fuse box managed to hook up the 72's throttle cable to the tbi without modification. even works in the tbi's hanger. opens completely to full throttle to the stop and closes completely without slack. also fixed the alternator and upsized the mounting bolts to 3/8 from 8mm. also managed to get the speedometer cable to match with a cable for a 72 k10 floor shifter was a necessary investment seeing as i wanted to run the 72's column instead of the 87 and it was a 4spd truck. went with a mr gasket 7668. ordered matching knobs to match it with the tcase shifter which will go right beside it and a matching boot thats all the pics for now. the body mounts are made from 2x4 rectangle 3/16" thick welded to the frame and using energy suspension body mounts for a cj7 with grade 8 hardware. the front clip mounts will be the same energy mounts with a 1/2" hole drilled into the frame on the front horns. other parts i have ordered but havent installed yet are a set of billet power steering pump brackets, a new pump and reservoir and a singe rib pulley to eliminate the ac completely, diy4x heavy washers to eliminate spring walk, diy4x urethane front leaf bushings, and shackle relocation diagrams. next on the list should be the bumpers once they are done, lights, winch, and front locker

Cool truck. Are you going to leave most of the body intact on this one? Are you going to super bob the bed or do something else in the back?

just comp cutting the front to clear the tires and bobbing the bed to match the length. the cab sits almost a foot further back than the blazer cab did so weight distribution should be awesome

this weekend progress was minimal as it was CAF(cold as f&*%). Chris managed to finish the wiring harness and after a few attempts it fired up. still have an issue with where we have the coil/injector hot while cranking lead since it wouldnt shut off with the key and another spot we tried kept the bendix on the starter engaged but I think we have it figured out and are going to mess with it tomorrow. power steering pump brackets finally showed up today so i'll be messing with that tomorrow as well. Rusty welded my steering shaft back together so the column is finished except for lacking a lower shaft bearing which it looks like the only place to get one is LMC truck. Ordered an autometer in dash tach to fill in the hole thats currently there as well.

steering is done all but one nut and lock washer on the rag joint and spot welding the slip fit in the collapsing tube. power steering pump is remounted with a new pulley and belt and the brackets are the shiniest thing on the motor. also almost have the front clip buttoned up just need to drill the front mount holes and put bushings in and cut fenders to clear the tires. had to cut the drivers side core support quite a bit to clear the steering box and in the process had to remove the lower radiator mount but should have that fixed tonight by moving it and using a bolt and nut to remount it instead of a rivet and im going to wrap hose around the bottom edge of the radiator to keep it from bouncing around on the bolt head so the radiator may be installed tonight as well. took a few days off from it to spend time with the kiddo and wife but going to get back at it
